Upcoming Changes - August 2024
Status Update
Hey, folks. We've been working hard on some exciting new updates that we wanted to share. The updates are essentially done, but it's taking a while to iron out new bugs and do playtesting and balance work to make sure that the resulting build is a good one. That being said, since this is taking a bit, we wanted to share what's in the works!
What's Coming Soon?
- More complex town mode - the town mode now has a more complicated map, and monsters will move along the nodes of the map until they reach a building or the center of the town. This will make this part of the game feel a bit more like a tower defense game. The idea is to invert the usual roguelike "map of nodes" structure and instead have the monsters coming down the nodes at YOU.
- More buildings - To support the new extensions to the town mode, many new buildings have been added, including Mage Towers that zap your enemies, Dust Collectors that produce dust for every day of game time, and Walls to block your opponents.
- Building upgrades - To further extend this mode, buildings now start off much weaker than they used to be (sorry) and can be upgraded by paying dust.
- Construction changes - Buildings now cost dust to build instead of requiring construction workers. Construction workers have been eliminated and buildings instead build after one in-game day.
- Sounds - Placeholder sounds have been added for every card in the game. Your minions will talk, your Action cards will make sound effects, etc.!
- Visual updates to enemies - Enemies will now look distinct on both the town map and with their avatar in combat, based on what color portal they came from. This should make it easier to distinguish what kind of enemy you're fighting and what types of cards they may have.
- Bugfixes - Many bugfixes have been made.
Above you can see the new town mode as well as the new placeholder enemy icons for yellow, black, and white enemies.
When?
This will probably take another 1-3 weeks to finish testing and balancing. This is a big update and we want to make sure it doesn't totally break the game.
What Comes After That?
- Art updates - Much of the art in the game right now is placeholder and will be updated to create a more unified art style.
- Further town mode updates - We will continue to refine and extend the town mode, adding more buildings and refining the balance of the new town mode.
- Separation of player health and town health - We intend to try giving each player their own health pool, and making those separate from the town health pool. This is a major gameplay change and has huge implications for healing cards, etc.
- More cards - so many more cards! You have no idea! At least 100 more planned.
